Jay Vincent is an award winning, television and film composer living in Los Angeles, with worldwide ventures as a composer, conductor, performer, orchestrator, arranger, and music producer. In 2012 he composed original music for the Golden Globe Awards, had a #1 television series, LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU, and became one of the youngest composers to receive a BMI Film & TV Award. Jay is also part of the Star Wars universe, composing music for the new LEGO STAR WARS: THE YODA CHRONICLES on Cartoon Network. A longtime collaborator with EA Games, his music can be heard as the top selling track on EA's DRAGON AGE 2: EPIC TIMES video game soundtrack, and in many award-winning trailers including BATTLEFEILD 4, MASS EFFECT 3, COMMAND & CONQUER, DRAGON AGE 2, and the upcoming DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION.
Jay received his graduate degree in film scoring from USC where he studied Composition and Cinematic Arts. His interest and respect for cinema provides him insight into writing music for the film medium. As a performer, he has brought Haydn to life with the Vienna Philharmonic, and toured the islands of Japan. As a listener, his diverse and meticulous study of sound, story and history has yielded an arsenal of abilities that make even the most challenging project possible. As a collaborator, his relationships with filmmakers have produced breakthroughs in careers and lasting works of art. As a storyteller, he speaks through his music.
Passionate about telling stories in diverse genres and cultures, his film score credits include the Iraqi rhythms of THE O.R., the drug haze rock & roll of the award-winning BROKEN DREAMS, the neo-classical chamber orchestra of FAKE (starring Oscar nominee Robert Loggia, Jill Flint of ROYAL PAINS and Oscar winner Fisher Stevens), the comedic salsa of THIS IS WHO WE ARE, the hip hop soundscapes of Ari Levinson's LOVE FOR REAL, the intimate Southern twang of BORN & RAISED, and the infectious Korean Pop of the controversial COMFORT GIRLS. He most recently finished scoring EL REGRESO DE ELIAS URQUIJO, a Spanish film by Cannes Film Festival winner Roque Madrid. This intimate, poignant score centering around several string soloists, just won the award for Best Original Soundtrack at the Festival Internacional de Cine Bajo la Luna in Islantilla, Spain. He just finished scoring EL TURNO DE NOCHE, his third collaboration with Madrid, which was in competition at Cannes 2014.
The worldwide phenomenon of NINJAGO has given him the privilege of presenting rich and intelligent music to a new generation of children, in the spirit of the classical masterpieces in Chuck Jones' LOONEY TUNES. In a time where musical themes are losing popularity, NINJAGO fans in 40 countries are treated every week to memorable melodies played by unique instruments from around the world. With music that is mature yet immediately accessible, his experience scoring this beloved series has convinced Jay that kids enjoy meaningful music with their cartoons.
